The Skill of Reloading Bullets
By :
Bruce Mackay
Reloading Bullets has been a pastime of mine for over twenty years. I have enjoyed it very much and I am now delighted to be able to promote the sport to others. The benefits have been vast; if anyone asks why I do it, I reply for the accuracy. Thinking back, it all started reloading for a .257 Roberts, just a grand rifle. Back then as now it was too expensive to have a large family and buy ammunition to go out and shoot just to burn holes in paper. That is the excuse I used then, and I started reloading bullets so I could shoot more and shoot cheaper; right away I found the increase in accuracy. I could load test rounds and save the information so I could increase my guns accuracy and load distinctive rounds for different game.

Fishing Reel Varieties

Particularly built for the Glock firearm, .45 GAP handgun ammo was first introduced in 2003 by Winchester. In comparison to the admired .45 ACP ammo, .45 GAP handgun ammo is 1/8-inch shorter but del

Many knowledgeable shooters of handguns consider .45 GAP ammunition in the 230-grain round to be the best available ammunition for 45-caliber autoloading pistols and handguns. For police departments, with correct cartridge design the frontal area of .45 GAP ammo offers impact advantages as compared to other handgun ammo.
.44 mag ammunition has been one of the world’s most robust pistol cartridges since it was first introduced in 1955 by a joint venture between Smith & Wesson and Remington. In addition to its noted po

Nowadays, .44 magnum handgun ammo is used more for shooting than anything else, however, it’s a great self-protection handgun ammo. Many police units also still favor .44 mag ammunition because of its ability to penetrate an automobile.
Both the recoil and muzzle blast from .44 mag handgun ammo is considerable, so it takes a seasoned shooter to be able to shoot .44 mag ammunition well. That said, those who master .44 mag ammunition swear by it.
.40 S&W ammunition (also known as .40 Smith & Wesson handgun ammo) was originally developed as an in-house joint venture between Winchester and Smith & Wesson following discussions in 1989. .40 S&W h

.40 S&W ammunition came about as somewhat of a fluke. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was at first working with 10mm automatic handgun ammo and had settled upon a load that met the agency’s criteria for cartridge diameter, weight, and quickness. The folks at S&W and Winchester evaluated what the FBI was trying to accomplish and decided that said criteria could be met with a much shorter round. One that would facilitate accuracy and allow use of smaller, more carry-friendly handguns that had better grip frames.
.357 Sig handgun ammo is based upon the casing of .40 S&W handgun ammo, with the primary variations between the two being a short neck and a sharp shoulder for the .357 sig. Behind the creation of .3

The slighter nature of the .357 sig ammunition cartridge offers a few distinct advantages. First, the compact nature of .357 sig handgun ammo allows for a shorter/slighter grip frame where the cartridge is chambered. This is important because it reduces the overall size of the pistol grip, which many hunters find more comfortable. Second, compared to its parent bullet, the .357 sig handgun ammo bullet can effectively launch lighter bullets with comparable muzzle velocitiy at higher speeds with less of a recoil. This combination - again - is very beneficial to smaller marksmen or marksmen with slighter hands, which is part of the reason why the .357 Sig ammo bullet has risen to a degree of popularity.
.357 mag ammo is probably the most admired high-velocity firearm ammunition in the U.S. for target practice, law enforcement work, and hunting. The .357 mag bullet provides nearly double the velocity

.357 magnum ammo has been used successfully to hunt elk, black bear, deer, and even the feared grizzly bear. However, the .357 mag bullet isn’t actually geared for shooting of these large animals unless used by an expert shooter.
In addition to hunting and it’s more common use in pistols, .357 magnum handgun ammo is also used in repeating and single-shot rifles as the 158-grain loads develop about a 1650 fps muzzle quickness in a 20-to-24 inch rifle barrel. Impressive!
Introduced in 1912, .380 auto ammunition is a different cartridge that’s become very admired the world over because of its use in handy, nimble, easy concealable handguns. In addition to this detail,
By :

.380 auto ammo is really the minimum agreed upon size that’s adequate for law enforcement or military use. For self-defense purposes, .380 auto ammo isn’t as robust as 9mm luger handgun ammo or .38 auto ammo, but this detail is offset in many people’s minds by the detail that handguns which use .380 auto ammunition are typically slighter and weigh less than pistols which shoot those other two calibers of ammunition.
For field use or hunting wild animals, .380 auto ammo is adequate for shooting rabbits, birds, squirrels, and other small wild animals. As compared to other light pistols, .380 auto ammo offers high velocity, which is a strong advantage for field use.
.45 acp ammo was first developed by John Browning (practically the father of all modern firearm shells!) in 1905. .45 ACP ammo saw extensive adoption very quickly thereafter, with the U.S. Ordinance
By :

Demonstrated in combat the world over, .45 acp ammo continues to have excellent target energy. Basically, it knocks the innards out of whatever it hits. In addition to said impact, .45 acp ammo has also developed a reputation amongst precision marksmen as being match-grade as its accuracy is highly prized.
For the average person, .45 ACP ammo requires a bit of getting used to. This is particularly true when .45 ACP ammo is fired from untuned semi-auto handguns. Far more popular for target practice or plinking, .45 acp ammo isn’t a celebrated hunting cartridge because of its curved trajectory when fired. Despite this curved trajectory, .45 ACP ammo is OK for using on small and medium game (primarily because of its noted stopping power).
9mm ammo was not widespread in the United States until rather recently because there was no American-made handgun or pistol which actually fired it until 1954, at which time Smith & Wesson brought to
By :

9mm ammo is now common for police, civilian, and military use, thanks to its widespread availability and on the whole trustworthy performance. The launch of the aforementioned two pistols by Colt and Smith & Wesson coupled with the flood of military arms into the 50 states following WWII prompted the desire for 9mm ammo to skyrocket.
Thanks to this, 9mm ammo is currently the most broadly used cartridge in America. It is produced by all the primary gun companies and is available in 88 grain to 147 grain.
.25 auto ammo offers remarkable speed for such a small ammo round. However, delivered energy (i.e. the impact on the target) is relatively meek. This fact, combined with the full-metal jacketed cartri
By :

Expanding .25 auto ammo bullets aren’t a large amount better than regular .25 auto rounds. The .25 auto cartridge is simply not potent enough for shooting anything but small rodents, nor is it adequate for serious self-defense. You do not particularly want to be caught in a gun fight with .25 auto rounds in your hand.
However, .25 auto ammunition is in style for its small size and inexpensiveness. Obviously, no sane person wants to be shot. Even if it’s from a little ole .25 auto round.

Reloading .223 for Target Shooting or Hunting
By :
Bruce Mackay
Reloading .223 - this is the fun caliber for me. If I had my way I would shoot a lot more of the mid range caliber rifles. Hitting the cross hairs at two or three hundred yards is just an tremendous feeling.
The Tips and Tricks of Precision Reloading
By :
Bruce Mackay
The thought of reloading for a season was looking like work when I started. The idea of reloading for precision and long range was not in my plans then until I actually got my first seven mm Reminton Mag. This was the first time I had a long range gun with enough hitting power to kill moose at three hundred yards and more. Then I started to become skilled at the things I needed to hit at that range. It was like learning how to hunt again and it was fun and exciting. I must have checked the stats on my caliber ten times just to make sure it was that flat shooting. I nearly shot my barrel out trying to discover all the range and wind variables. Then I shot a huge bull at over five hundred yards. I have never lost that feeling of accomplishment.
