What Can You Learn as a Paint Contractor?

College internships have become a mainstay of the college experience for most students. Part-time jobs and internships allow students to have a little bit of financial freedom while in school and double as a means to get a look at and a taste for the real world.

What many do not realize, though, is that there are many options outside of the office job for the student to choose from.

So, while you want to go into business or law or medicine or whatever, why in the world would you even consider taking an internship as a paint contractor? Painting is a necessary evil for many homeowners, as they must repaint their home so that their home's appearance does not drag and fall behind that of their neighbors home.

Most do not enjoy painting their home and hire a painting contractor to do the work for them. So, when many students are faced with the prospect of being a paint contractor as an internship, they may not see the appeal of such a job.

A good deal of students end up taking internships in their respective fields, maybe they will work in an office doing filing and getting coffee. Maybe they will work in a legal office doing similar work, or in a lab cleaning up after scientists or performing pretty simplistic tasks that, while necessary, may not allow the student to get a full experience of the field.

There are contracting companies, however, that allow students to take on some real responsibility and may even allow them to manage their own team of painters. They not only learn how to manage a team, develop their leadership skills and learn about financial management and business practices, but also are given the opportunity to make some extra cash that can help them through college.

Giving students financial freedom and the opportunity to really get a taste for the how the real world will be once they graduate, gives students a unique opportunity absent in most college internships.

Being a paint contractor will, obviously, give the student a chance to learn a new ability in painting that can last their lifetime and may even be a hobby the enjoy doing through their adult life. When most people think of being a painter, this is the only benefit they can think of.

As explained earlier, however, there are other, more important advantages that many people do not realize. Giving students a truly genuine taste of the real world will allow them to grow and develop as valuable employees and as people.

Not every internship gives students this opportunity and it's actually a shame. While in college, students should work on developing their abilities and growing as human beings, finding themselves and discovering their passions and abilities.

Not entering into an endless pattern and fitting a generic mold that makes up so much of the workforce. College should teach students to be unique and to do what they really love doing. Internships sometimes miss this, as they have students perform mundane tasks and may teach them 'business as usual' that they will go by for the rest of their lives.

Being a paint contractor may not be the answer to all of these problems, but it will allow the student a new perspective and experience that many miss out on.
