By: Aydan Corkern

Do you take care of your elderly parents? Do they live with you or do you go over to their home every day to check on them? This is a great help to them, but it can be a strain on you. In some cases this can become your whole life. They might have you running from this place to that place and in some instances you might be with them all day. You might have to clean their home and then go to your place and do your house cleaning. You might even have to cook all of their meals on top of your own. If you have both parents that you are looking after, you might end up with too many things that have to be taken care of that day.

If this is you and you just can not seem to have the time for anything else, you will need to find some help. If you want to you can ask their doctor what would be the best thing for you to do. This doctor might tell you that you should put them either in your home permanently or you might want to put them in assisted living. This is a step you can take besides a nursing homes. They will have their own little place, but all of the cooking, cleaning, even getting them to their doctor might be done by the staff. This will clear up your time so that you can do what you need to do. Then you can go see them and actually just spend time with them.

These professionals will go to their place and clean it for them and if something should happen while you are not there they will give you a call and tell you in on what is happening. This professional will call their doctor so that if they need to be in the hospital, they can get them on their way. They will call you so that you can meet them at the hospital and can talk to the doctor. To most of you, your parents are as important as your children. In a lot of cases you might even find that they will fight each other for your attention.

If you bring them into your home, make sure that you do not treat them like your kids. They will act a lot like them and if you treat them as such and they will rebel just like them. They will do things just to spite you when you tell them that they can not do something they might want to do. In some ways they are worse than children, but some of the things that happen in regards to them are out of their hands. In other words they just might forget simple things like manners. Just remember to treat them as adults for as long as possible.
