NHL Playoff Tickets - Capitals Fight To Stay On Top of Division

By:

Only a little over a month stands between the NHL regular season and the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and the teams in each division are vying for the top spot in order to secure a playoff berth. The Southeast division has a few teams who are shaping up to be top contenders in the division, led by the Washington Capitals as of March 4. A few of the other teams still have enough time to capture the lead, meaning that the last few weeks may be the most exciting. Fans can be there to see whoever makes it with NHL Playoff tickets found online.

After playing 65 games, the Washington Capitals are on top of the Southeast division with a record of 40-20-5 and 85 total points. They have been fairly consistent since the beginning of the season. They lost only four games in the month of February. They had a hard time keeping the momentum going in the month of March as they started the month with two losses at home. Without an upswing, the Capitals are leaving room for one of the other teams to take the lead in their division.

Right behind the Capitals are the Florida Panthers and the Carolina Hurricanes. The Panthers have a record of 33-23-8 and 74 points after 64 games. The Panthers had a rough start to the season, winning only nine combined games in October and November. Since then, their winning percentage has gone up, and they lost only five games in February. They started March with two big games, both of which were away.

The Hurricanes have a very similar record of 33-27-5 after 65 games as well as 71 points. Both the Hurricanes and the Panthers have more road losses than wins, which speaks volumes about where their weakness is. The Hurricanes have gone up and down, like going from the five-game losing streak in January to topping Washington and other top teams in February and March. If they can continue to improve in the later weeks of the season, they have a chance of taking the lead. It helps that they only have seven away games left in the season, which should help their record.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are at the bottom of the division on their number of losses, but second from the bottom in points. After 64 games, they are 21-31-12 with 54 points. After a slight improvement in their win percentage in January, the Lightning won only three games in February, despite the fact that the majority of the month consisted of home games. They have been active up until the trade deadline in order to inject some talent into their roster, but the chance of them making the playoffs is unlikely.

The Atlanta Thrashers are ahead of the Lightning in wins with a record of 23-25-6, but behind in points with 52. The Thrashers rallied in February, winning six of their games. The month of March will be rough on the Thrashers as they have six road games.
