How Various Paintball Fields Are Set Up

By: Corey Palmer

You would be surprised on how many different types of paintball fields there are in the sport. Each type of field is for a specific type of paintball game play.

Wooded fields - these fields are probably the most popular and are pretty much like the name suggests. A patch of woods or forest for playing paintball. Usually, there are various bases, areas of cover built or other things to enhance game play available. For me, these can be the most fun places to play because there are many places that a person can hide or get cover from. The forest can also be a challenging place for covert ops since walking through fallen branches and leaves takes a lot of practice to do it silently.

Speedball fields - these fields are used for playing a round of speedball. Usually, it is an area roped off in a field where there are various barricades for cover. Speedball sometimes involves placing a flag in the middle of this field with the object being to get the flag and bring it to the opposite side of the field without getting shot. Many times, if the field was broken in half you will notice that each side is perfectly the same making things fair for each team that starts out at opposite sides of the field.

Indoor fields - in some larger cities there are places where indoor fields have been set up in large warehouse type buildings. This is a whole different style of game play from the outdoor variety. Things like lighting, different rooms, hallways, and other indoor elements all come into play here and can make things very interesting.

Personally, I think it would be cool to try to combine all of these three types of fields and blend it all into one. Indoor and outdoor areas, areas with open fields, and wooded areas. An all day game in this type of scene would be amazing! Imagine being able to run from one building to another during a game. Each team could have a base that needs to be captured and cleared of any hostiles. In between there could be a speed ball field and all around that could be wooded areas. This type of set up would make a scenario type style of play really challenging and fun. Takes that old game of capture the flag to a whole new level.
