How Much is Your Health Worth to You?-00-868

By: Pat Patrickson

Many of us get caught up in life. We forget to take care of ourselves, letting our bodies deteriorate. Since you have only one body, you may want to consider taking better care of it.

It is understandable if you really lack the finances to buy the right foods. It is understandable if you cannot afford to spend money on a gym membership. But living in ignorance, wearing your body down until you live in constant pain is really not an option.

Many people claim that eating well costs too much, and the cost of fruit or supplements cannot be justified. Those same people end up spending a small fortune on medication when they fall ill, since their bodies lack the ability to resist bacterial and viral infections. Is this perhaps a case of being penny wise and pound foolish? This does not even include loss earnings you would incur if you do not get paid sick leave.

Yet another danger lurks in the form of stress. Many people are aware of the amount of pressure and stress they face, yet they do not compensate their bodies in any way for the extra wear and tear. Stress drains certain resources from your body at a faster rate than usual, and, unless these are replaced, will leave you vulnerable to a wide range of medical problems and conditions.

Lastly, very few people actually invest the time needed to exercise. For many it is simply a waste of time, and is not considered to be important. For many more, it is simply too much trouble, cutting into their precious free time.

Unfortunately, there is a harsh reality we all have to face: Some or other time during the course of your life, the lack of bodily care and "maintenance" will catch up with you. It could simply cause any of a myriad of possible conditions, or it may affect your quality of life in general. The price you pay then will be a lot more than the pittance you save now.

Think of the effect a lack of care would have to your car: It would eventually be just too much trouble to keep. The only difference is that you cannot trade your body in to get a new one. Considering that, how much is your health actually worth to you? Can you really afford not to take proper care of your body?
